A year mark is a letter, or a combination of a letter and number, that identifies the year in which an object was marked. The same letter can represent several different years, so always check the control mark, locality mark and the rest of the mark sequence as well.

Finland's present year-mark series began with the letter A in 1810. After the 24 letters have been used, the series number following the letter changes. J, W, Å, Ä and Ö are not used. In older series 2 marks, the letter and number could be struck separately, so the number may also appear before the letter.

The left column gives the letter and the top row the series number. For example, the mark for 2026 is A10. A letter alone was used in the first series from 1810 to 1833.

If the holder of a responsibility mark is not found, try searching by location only. Results also include makers whose mark has not yet been identified with certainty.

Letters in old marks can resemble one another. If necessary, try alternatives such as I and J, or C and G.
Enter the letters together without full stops or spaces: A:PIHRA → APIHRA, C:G:N → CGN and C.F. ELG → CFELG. The characters /, & and – may form part of a mark.
